About the DIT

Taxonomy forms the basic building block of biological sciences. But sometimes it is hard to trace a fellow taxonomist. For users of taxonomic expertise it is nearly impossible to find a specialist. Further taxonomic expertise is not evenly distributed for the various taxonomic groups. It is very difficult to guess the exact number of taxonomists and para taxonomists in the country.

Database of Indian Taxonomists (DIT) is the step towards collating basic information on Indian taxonomists and their areas of interest. This online directory when enriched and near complete would not only provide much required information about taxonomic community in India, but would also develop virtual and online network of Indian taxonomists and para taxonomists.
